Sometimes your HMRC submission may have errors. When this happens, UK Payroll will send you an HMRC-issued error code. The most common HMRC payroll error codes are listed below, so you can resolve them quickly.
Note: To stop or start receiving these emails, navigate to Settings > Personal > Account and toggle Send me important information about employees and payroll.
| Error code | Meaning | Action |
| 1046 | Your HMRC user ID and/or password are incorrect and the authentication has failed. | Navigate to Settings > HMRC and check that your Accounts office reference and PAYE reference are correct. |
| 4084 | This is a negative National Insurance error. This typically happens when you refund pay through payroll, but the amount refunded is greater than the year-to-date total pay. HMRC will automatically reject this. |
Check the payrun values. If you've accidentally inputted an incorrect refund value, fix it in the relevant payroll. If the data has been imported incorrectly, contact Support. |
| 7801 | Either the Accounts office reference or the PAYE reference are incorrect. | Navigate to Settings > HMRC and check that your Accounts office reference and PAYE reference are correct. |
| 7082 |
You have not been invited to send this submission type. This often occurs when the Accounts office reference number is incorrect, if you haven't set up PAYE, or if you haven't set up RTI submissions with HMRC. |
Navigate to Settings > HMRC and check that your Accounts office reference is correct and that PAYE is set up correctly. Check in your HMRC account to make sure RTI submissions are set up correctly. |
| 7818 |
The employer scheme has been cancelled; therefore, the submission can't be accepted. This occurs when you have notified HMRC to cancel your employer scheme, or if HMRC felt completed to cancel your employer scheme. HMRC may cancel employer schemes if they receive 3 months of £0 RTI submissions without a "no payment" EPS. |
Contact HMRC. |
| 7086 |
The eligible filing period is different to your filing pattern; therefore, the submission can't be accepted. This occurs when HMRC expects you to file your RTI returns until a future period, not now. |
Contact HMRC and indicate your correct RTI start date. |
