Parents of babies admitted to neonatal care within the first 28 days of birth are entitled to Statutory neonatal care pay (SNCP) and leave. This entitles employees to up to 12 weeks of leave, used within 68 weeks of birth.
Note: Statutory neonatal care leave is a day one right. To be eligible for statutory neonatal care pay, an employee must have 26 weeks of continuous service.
Before you begin
Statutory neonatal care pay is calculated as the lower of the two options:
- £187.18 per week, or
- 90% of average weekly earnings.
It is up to you to calculate this accurately.
How to set up neonatal care pay in UK Payroll
- From the left side bar, navigate to Payrolls.
- Select the relevant draft payroll.
- Select the relevant employee.
- Click Add pay item.
- Select + Gross addition.
- From the dropdown, select Neonatal care pay.
- Enter the Amount.
- Click Add gross addition.
