Enter and maintain employee bank details in the Bank accounts section of their Bob profile so UK Payroll can use the correct UK account for salary payments.

Note: This article applies to new Bob and UK Payroll customers using the enhanced Bank accounts section. Existing customers continue to use their current bank settings and sync setup until a later migration.

Get the most out of Bob

  • Keep employee bank details in one place and reduce duplicate updates.
  • Use country-specific fields to help keep UK payment details accurate.
  • Resolve missing bank details before payday to help prevent payment issues.

Note: UK Payroll pays 100% of an employee’s net pay into one active UK bank account. It does not support split payments, even if you configure percentages or fixed amounts in the employee’s profile.

Before you begin

  • Make sure you have permission to edit the Financial category on employee profiles.
  • Have the employee’s UK bank account number and sort code ready.
  • Confirm which UK account should receive the employee’s pay. If multiple UK accounts already exist, review them with your implementation team during onboarding.

How to enter an employee’s UK bank details

  1. From the left menu, select Org > People.
  2. Open the relevant employee’s profile.
  3. Scroll to the Financial category and click the pencil icon.
  4. Under Bank accounts, click + Add bank account.
  5. From Country, select United Kingdom.
  6. Fill out the account details, including Account nickname, Account number, and Sort code.
  7. Click Add. The account will be added to the table and marked as Active.
  8. To update an employee's bank details, click the three dot menu > Edit bank details to the right of the relevant account's row. Update the details and save your changes. After the employee data sync, review the bank details on the employee’s UK Payroll page to confirm the correct sort code and account number appear.
Note: You cannot change an account’s Country or Account number after adding it. If either is incorrect, add an account with the correct details and update the payroll account selection before deactivating the old account.
  9. Click Done in the top right of the Financial category.

When the employee has only one bank account, it will be assigned automatically as the payroll account. UK Payroll will sync the sort code and account number from the selected UK account.

Note: Bank details on the UK Payroll employee page are read-only. Make changes in the employee’s Bob profile, not in UK Payroll.

FAQs

Can I split an employee’s UK payroll payment between accounts?
No. UK Payroll pays 100% of net pay into one selected active UK account. Percentage, fixed amount, and remaining allocations do not change this behavior.

Does adding another bank account change where UK Payroll sends pay?
Not by itself. UK Payroll selects an account from the payment allocation, not simply from the list of saved accounts. Review the allocation and the synced bank details before processing pay.

Why can’t I edit bank details in UK Payroll?
The employee’s Bob profile is the source of bank details. UK Payroll displays the synced sort code and account number as read-only fields to avoid conflicting updates.

What happens if an employee no longer has a UK account in their current allocation?
UK Payroll checks their most recent UK allocation and uses its priority-one UK account if it is still active. If it cannot resolve an account, it displays a missing-bank-details warning in UK Payroll.
